Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to a few questions you may have. Please don't hesitate to get in touch using the Contact page above, or email: hello@theillustratedcake.co.uk if you would like to ask anything else.

As each of my cakes are unique, prices vary depending on the amount of work involved and of course how many people you need to feed. The price takes into account design, baking, sculpting, painting, modelling work and ingredients.

I have a minimum order of £125 and I require a 50% non-refundable booking fee to secure your date in my diary.  Please see my terms and conditions for more details.

As all my cakes are bespoke, then the answer to that question is usually yes!

If I feel that what you are looking for might not be the style of cake that I offer, then I will let you know.

Ideally, at least 4 weeks ahead of your event, but please contact me as I may have late availabilty.

Please contact me to discuss gluten and dairy free cakes. Unfortunately I do not cater for nut allergies.

Celebration cakes are collection only and can be picked up at an agreed date and time. Wedding cakes are delivered at cost, depending on the location of the wedding.

  • Your cake may be surprisingly heavy, please pick up/carry the box with your hands at the base, not the sides.
  • Do not place the cake on your lap or car seat. The flattest/most level areas in the car are usually the foot-well and boot. Please make sure you have adequate space for the cake. Do not transport or leave your cake in a hot car.
  • At home/the venue, please store the cake somewhere level, cool and away from direct sunlight in the box provided. Do not refrigerate the cake.
  • The cake is a fresh product containing no additives or preservatives and it is assumed that it will be eaten on the day it is requested. Once cut, cling film can be placed around the cake to help prevent it drying out or it can be transferred to an airtight container.
  • There may be dowels, cake cards or other food safe supports in your cake, you will be made aware of these, please remove them before eating.
  • Decorations and models may also contain wires, dowels and other non-edible products. Again, you will be made aware of these and it is your responsibility to make sure these are removed before serving the cake to yourself or your guests
  • Many people tell me they have kept their models as keepsakes. They can last years if kept away from heat and sunlight!

It takes time to create excellence. If it could be done quickly, more people would do it.
